Drug treatment for heights phobia

I have found an interesting article on Medical News and other sources about using drugs for treatment of fear of heights and other phobias.

A drug used to treat tuberculosis, known as D-cycloserine, was used to support behavioral therapy using virtual reality for succesful treatment of a fear of heights. Scientists from Emory University School of Medicine and the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience (CBN) published the study in the November issue of the Archives of General Psychiatry.

The drug acts on a region of the brain known as amygdala, helping to overcome heights phobia much more effectively than standalone therapy.

The study was conducted on 28 participants and researchers submitted a patent for using D-cycloserine for treatment of fear of heights and other phobias.

While, I oppose, where possible, using drugs for treatment of fear of heights and other phobias, for some people this might be an attractive therapy alternative.
